Officials from the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility, operated by GEO Reentry Services, will participate in the Shelby County Career Fair on April 10 and April 11, and representatives will be on hand to gather applications and conduct interviews with candidates for a number of positions at the facility.
The Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility, funded by the Alabama Department of Corrections, is a minimum-risk residential reentry center. Individuals are referred to the facility for a six-month program of drug rehabilitation, education and an opportunity for a vocational degree in five different trades and crafts via our community college system. Based on Alabama’s focus on expanding reentry services to reduce recidivism, the participant population at the facility continues to expand, creating the need for quality workers, said Gary Hetzel, senior area manager for GEO Reentry Services.
“This is an exciting time to work in the criminal justice field as there is a shift toward reducing criminal behavior through evidence-based treatment and training,” Hetzel said. “We are excited to be part of this local career fair, as we find many of our current staff have come from Columbiana and nearby communities.”
Because the state is referring more individuals to the facility for services, the resident population is expected to double from about 300 to 600 participants. As a result, the staffing at the facility is being expanded from 58 positions to more than double that at 124 full-time careers.
GEO Reentry is hiring for many positions at the facility, including security monitors, clinical staff including case managers who provide counseling, treatment services and employment guidance, and a facility manager responsible for facility maintenance.
The career fair will be held at the Columbiana Recreation Center on Monday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees can obtain assistance with resume writing and interview techniques.
On Tuesday, April 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday, April 11, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., attendees can visit with local employers including GEO Reentry to complete applications and do interviews.
